I've bought a new universal wiring harnass for my 79 f-250. The harness is designed for a internal regulated alternator. I need to know how to wire the original external voltage regulator using this harness. Here are the wires that I have in the engine harness:
Red (either red) starter positive battery cable with fusible link
Red (either red) battery terminal of alternator
Purple starter solenoid energize circuit
Brown alternator energize terminal
Pink battery terminal of HEI distributor or resistor for points
Then I have a few more wires for oil and temp. I've looked at the wire digram from the factory, but its very confusing. Any help would be appreciated.
Does this new harness have any means for any sort of charge indication - such as an ALT light, or an ammeter? If so, which one?
It's pretty straightforward - just need to know what the harness is set up for. Do the instructions give any indication of what the BROWN wire comes from? Is it simply a keyed power source?
The harness has a charge light built into the harness. My gauge cluster has a amp meter that I want to use, so I need to know how to wire that up as well. I looked at my original harness and it has 2 wires going to the alternator STA pole. One wire goes back to the voltage reg and the other goes back into the harness. Im wondering if this wire goes to the amp meter or charge light. As for the brown wire I believe its just a ignition on wire to the alternator.
