It's time to paint the Blue Guzzler. I'm planning on sanding down to the base and redoing it completely. Can anybody give me an estimate on how much of everything I will need? I'm planning on using Duplicolor Grey primer, dark blue base, and then clear finishing coat. It's a short bed stepside, standard cab. Thank you.
If you're referring to the "paint shop" by Duplicolor. I just finished painting the cab and at 12 quarts of paint alone. Haven't even touched the bed yet. I sanded mine down to the base primer. Primed the hood with the Duplicolor primer and then went and bought a gallon of rustolem and a gallon thinner. I think I'll have enough left to get the bed done. Estimating 8 quarts of paint to do the exterior of the bed.
If I had it to do other again I'd go buy the paint by the gallon somewhere and thin it myself
So you will have used 20 qts by the time you are finished? That seems like a lot of paint. I'm not a painter; how many coats is that? Reg cab or other? Thanks!
.
I think the average estimate is one quart per panel.
I repainted my truck with Rustoleum. I used about a gallon of primer and 6 quarts of top coat. I still have about a half quart leftover. I sprayed it with a hvlp gun.
Total paint cost (primer and paint) is around $65.00. Miscellaneous costs were for sand paper and oil and grease remover, etc., so maybe another $50.00?
Standard cab short bed. I used the midnight blue. Used a HVLP gun as well. Primer was still showing through on first two coats and in places of third coat
I PAINTED A 94 XL-150....STANDARD CAB...8FT BED....SANDED DOWN TO PRIMER....SPRAYED WITH HVLP GUN....1 QT. PPG GRAY PRIMER+ 1 QT. PPG PRIMER CATALYST...1 GALLON OMNI AU MIDNIGHT METALIC BLUE+ I QT. OMNI AU HARDNER...I SPRAYED 2 COATS PRIMER AND 2 COATS PAINT...HAD ALITTLE PRIMER LEFT...AND ABOUT 1/4 PAINT LEFT OVER..GOOD LUCK...HOPE THIS HELPED...
With the rustoleum, how did it look in the end and what types of rustoleum should i use? can you link me to a site that has the right paint? I'm aiming at making this thing look nice. It was a gift from my grandpa and i'm slowly redoing it. Almost no rust except for one cab corner, but the paint he used didn't mix up well so i'm redoing it. thanks.
