Hey guys my father-in-law has a chance to purchase a 68 F250 2WD. We went to look at it today. It's got a 360 engine doesn't smoke runs smooth. His buddy that has the trucks says he is pretty sure it has 123,000+ original miles. Don't know if the engine has been rebuilt or not. The body has what I would call some surface rust. Nothing actually penatrating, like it's just sat outside and paint faded all the way to the metal. The bed is in excellent shape except for a few, I mean few, very small rust holes at the front and back of the bed. The body is pretty must straight, I don't even think the truck has ever been wrecked. I don't know exactly what rearend it has but it's not the 9". The guy said the truck is a camper special. It has the storage compartment on the passenger side. No power brakes or power steering and no A/C. So now to the question. What would you guys think this truck would be worth? I don't know if he is going to buy it for sure or not. But I thought I would see what you guys thought it would be worth.
That truck should be worth about $800-1500 no more. If its a good deal, jump on it. The power steering out of any truck and Bronco from 67-79 will work and should cost about $180. I don't know what the power brakes will cost, I've never done it. good luck!
well around were I am from a truck like you are lookin at, at the right time go for $1,500 also the wrong time it could go down to $800. I wouldn't pay more than $1,500 for a no a/c no power steering, no power brakes. but many people in my life have called me cheap, so take my advise or not.
I don't know exactly what rearend it has but it's not the 9".

If it's a true "cherry" it may be worth $2,000, but value is very variable dependant on supply and demand in a particular location, overall condition and state of repair, etc. Too bad it didn't come with air, PS or PB....my '68 F250 CS did.
It doesn't sound like the truck is a true cherry, with the mileage and the rust, even though it's surface rust. $2000 is way high. If everything works (well), it might be worth 1500, but if your going to have to repair alot of systems, you might as well get a cheaper starter truck since you will have to fix it anyway. I'd say $800 to $1000 for a "good" basic 2WD, and less for anything else.
I picked up my 68 F250 Camper Special for 1500, although it did have PS and PB but no AC. For the condition it was in I didn't mind paying the price considering most of the older trucks go to a life of really hard work and some abuse. Paying for the condition pays off in the end especially when you have to replace the cab because someone used it as a platform for cutting trees causing them to cave in.
As far as any work repairs other than painting the truck there isn't any. The said he just replaced the front brakes, kingpins, front brake lines, has a new master cylinder. The only work which I think may need to be done is the power steering and that's not a necessity. Just would make the truck easier to drive. The guy which is a good friend of my father-in-law's, so I don't think there is any kind of wrong doing here, uses the truck to haul mulch in a couple times a year and back and forth to work every now and then. If I had the money it would be sitting in my driveway already. I would like my FIL to buy the truck but that's his perogative. I think it would make him a good truck to do work in instead of abusing his 2002 F250 Diesel SD....

Mileage=3,514 per year for each of the past 35 years....not a cherry???? I put more miles on my new vehicles in 5 years than this truck has in all 35.
What's you father-in-law willing to pay for the truck? What is his buddy asking? I've seen this vintage truck original and unrestored sell from a couple hundred dollars to over $5,000. Value is a very difficult thing to determine especially when the markets are limited and conditions are so variable as for a vehicle like this.
I think the $800 is a great price for this truck. That's what I told him. I also told him if I had the money he and I would probably be in a bidding war....
I just wish I had the money to buy it!!! I don't know for sure if he is going to or not..
lets all remember that amount of miles doesn't determine the condition its in. I've seen trucks here in Montana that have 60 thou on them and are all hailed out. chances are that the majority of the miles were put on a long time ago, and that it spends alot of time sitting now. take that into account. Also, if the motor hasn't been rebuilt, its on the down side of its hill. This is to say nothing of harder to find rust (front cab mounts and fenders), wheel bearings (all 4), radiator condition for daily driving, wiring modifications made by someone not (necessarily) qualified to do so, other electrical, suspension bushings, u-joints, clutch, gearboxes... Its about where and how they have been driven. Rust is rust, dents are dents, and a cherry has none of these. This truck's not perfect. And I find it perhaps a little hard to believe that a camper special would not have power brakes or steering. It really sounds like a nice truck, though, and if you could get it for 800 that would be a great buy. Hope you can get the money together. Good luck.
