So all lift kits, new and used I have looked into or enquired about are for 05-07 F2/350 and 08-10 F2/350. Whats the difference? Maybe I'm not as Diehard ford as I thought but I thought the 05+ suspension was the same!
Didn't the length of the leaf springs change in 2008? I thought they made them longer for better ride. Not sure why this would matter if you were only getting taller blocks though.
Judging by looking at Icon's line up, the box kit for the front end is different(meaning out of the sway bar links, bumpstops and brake line brackets, at least one item changed), but everything else is the same. Springs, blocks, radius arm brackets, trac bar etc are all the same part number for those two year ranges.
Replacement rear springs will be different, but not the blocks.
So pardon my stupidity but if the 08-10 leafs are longer, could you still install them on an older truck? Using the extra length, shouldn't they be arched More to fit, and increase the lift height??? Just a thought
No, you have to install a new front spring mount about 8 inches forward of the old one. A guy on here did it, and there's no way you could wedge the longer leaves into the shorter mounts.
There was someone on this forum who did install the longer leaf springs on a 2005-2007 truck. If I recall correctly, he had to drill new mounting holes for the spring perches, but overall it was not difficult.
You'd have to search the forum to find the thread, I do not recall the owner's name off the top of my head.
Another suspension question. Is there a difference in Front coils on a 2008 f450 king ranch and a 08 f350? Basically wondering if they're taller or thicker.
Assuming they're both the same drivewheel (2wd or 4wd), then the only difference is in the weight rating of the spring. Check the VIN tag by the driver's door latch and look at the Front GAWR, that weight translates to the spring's code. One truck will not 100% for certain have a higher code than another, because springs were selected based on packages when the truck was built.
IIRC ratings range from 4600-6000# for pickups, with 6500# and 7000# options for CC trucks. The D60 front axle is only rated to 6000#, so only trucks with the Super 60 front axle would have come with springs coded higher than that.
For the purposes of a lift, going from 5200 to 6000# coils on very similar F250s nets about half an inch of height difference after accounting for the tires. Putting in coils from a 450 won't lift the front enough to make a real difference, unless you're going from low rated 4.6k to high rated 7k, but ride will suffer significantly due to the light front end on stiff springs.
