scariest/most hacked modification
The crankcase breather hose to the air filter was replaced with a piece of wire loom. I didn't have any heater hose the right size, so I replaced that junk with a piece of clear PVC tubing. It gets alarmingly soft from the engine heat, but it hasn't failed yet...
The oil drain plug is stripped out except for 2 threads and was held in with thread lock. I put it back in with more thread lock. >_> I shall put a junkyard oil pan (it has a big dent in it) on next time I change the oil...
I had a junky old Duster years ago in college that the ignition switch broke on. Since I had no money, I spliced the wiring harness together so it was always "on", and shut it off by popping the clutch and disconnecting the battery cable. The starter solenoid was engaged via a "borrowed" light switch hanging out of the dash. I never used that closet light anyway... >_>
I fixed it all proper-ish later on when I got some summer work, but drove it like that for a good 8 months or so.
helped a buddy with a $250 s10 that needed hoses and we ended up wrapping every hose with gorilla tape and he rolled with it for 18 months before wrapping it around a tree
When I pulled it out I found that 2 of the 3 nut/bolts holding the torque converter to the flex plate looked like just something he found on the floor of his garage or out of some coffee can. Then found that 2 of the bolts that hold the flex plate to the crank were missing....guess his coffee can was empty by then.
Glad I pulled it all apart...something was eventually going to come through the floor pan on that thing.
Got under the dash after i drove it home and found somebody had unhooked the factory push pull cables from the heater box, and tied hemp rope to them, ran the hemp rover over the hacked out stereo and dangled them under the dash, so you could reach under there and adjust your heater. I have no clue why they did this, all i had to do was hook them back up and it worked, aside from the one level i broke trying to get it to work. I then decided wth id replace the whole unit, got an entire unit, with cables, for 10 bucks at a junk yard.
Next best thing. same truck
I was replacing the headlights in it, had TERRIBLE lights. I was looking at them and i noticed they were in upside down, so i of coarse put the new ones in right side down
, well after closer examination, i found my high beams were low beams and lows were high. I popped the hood to see that the 2 wires had been cut off and swapped around. It would have taken more time to swap those wires than to fix the headlights, im assuming somebody wanted brighter dim lights for city driving, but what a way to do it.Same truck:
When i got that truck home (keep in mind this was a free truck) i immediately went to removing interior parts from the truck, like carpet etc because the top was removed for who knows how long, and the dang carpet had mold n crap in it. So im looking at these side panels trying to understand them, i pull them off to see they are made of 1.5" thick pressed paper interior siding. Yeah it was a little rotten. So i yanked those out, then i found i had like 4 layers of carpet in there too. Pulled that out.
Poor truck
