My Random PSD thread.
1. to start off, i would like to know where you Dahl150 owners got the fitting to adapt to the filter body. i (believe) i used a 5/8" flare fitting 90* elbow into a standard thread that i converted down to a 3/8" barb, and i used the same on the outlet side. however under 3-5 psi (C4070) the inlet side leaks, but the outlet doesn't...?? i had pipe dope on all of the adapters, and after tearing them apart when i found the leak, i saw that the dope wasn't even drying at ALL. so i cleaned and put teflon tape back on them. i even added an o-ring to the leaky side, to no avail. i saw something about a "JIC" (?) type fitting it used. those who have them, where did you get them, i didnt get ANYTHING with my dahl filter.
2. i have decided to go with 6" stacks now. you all know as well as i do, that i will not be satisfied with 5" stacks when i know 6" will look better on a 172" wheelbase truck as high as mine is (tires soon
). i went to the local big rig shop, and he said they didnt make what i wanted (5" inlet bell out to 6", 36" long, miter cut.) so i left and went to another place and they didnt have them, so i came home. i had an offer from a fellow FTE'r who was going to do them but was unsure after "he" started to drill a hole in the bed. so i would like to know where you got your stacks alone, if you did not get them in a kit. i was planning on getting 5" stacks from a fellow member so i only got the splitter pipe and adapters, now i wish i would have went with the 6" kit from eBay. any online dealers who sell what i need?3. in midst of getting ready for stacks, i cleaned, primed and painted my splitter pipe, elbow modified for CCV inlet, and all clamps. i used a ceramic paint that is good for 500*. last week i wrapped the DP because i know it's going to get hotter than that. i cut a hole in the 90* (almost the same as RampageF-350's) and welded in a iron nipple about 10" long. of course i have a 45" on one end inside. pics of painting and this are getting ready to be uploaded to my webshots gallery. so check that out in the next few days if you are bored. since the exhaust was wet and not cured, i took the rest of the system off in anticipation for stacks. i used the short 3x" piece of pipe i used for my muffler delete, and the flex pipe in the stack kit to make a temporary exhaust system.
it ends right behind the transfercase and then is angled down about 30* and out to the right some. it sounds insanely cool. only those who have started and revved the truck with just the downpipe know what i am talking about here. it will make you muffler guys hack that sucker off. quick. pics coming of that too.probably one of the coolest things i have done with my truck so far, i discovered some of the unknown torque of my truck. it rained about an hour before this, so there was a film of water still on the roads. i left the IHC dealer, and had to make a U-turn on the highway to get the other direction to go home. well traffic coming out of B-more was heavy, and i saw a few breaks i could have taken. but i knew i would break traction easily and maybe cause an accident. patiently i waited and let the turn lane behind me back up. finally i took my spot in traffic. i pulled out into the lane, and with just a small bit of throttle to get me completely in the lane, both back wheels broke loose and i slid the rear end of the truck into the right lane, with traffic approaching fast. that's not it. i let off and got into my lane, and i figured i needed to get up to speed quickly. how? it shifted into 2nd and locked the TC. dropped RPM's to about 1500. 100hp setting. i rolled on the throttle to about 75% im guessing, and i see smoke dumping out. i check the boost gauge and see it slowly rise and then it hits 15 psi and takes off. i look down and see the speedo instantly jump from 45 to 65, and i realize my backend is sliding out. i actually had to countersteer to keep the front end of the truck in the lane, it was fishtailing wildly. i can guess that i was about 3' into the lane beside me. i hit the rumblestrip on the left side of the highway. i guess it must have shifted into 3rd somewhere in between, because i was at 75 (about 50 ground speed) before i let off realizing that i was spinning. i didnt know my truck could break the tires loose on a straight away, uphill, with steady throttle at 45mph. and the thing was that i WASN'T even trying to show off, just avoid an accident!!
approaching the next stop light i got evil looks from 4 or 5 surrounding cars who were behind me, one which was white that apparently got smoked out. yeah that is my book for this week, comments welcome, and also if anyone can help out with my two "problems" above that would be great. thanks for listening FTE.

That is a book!! For the fuel filter fittings, call Bob up at DS. He sent me the fittings I needed and they have not leaked since day 1. I think he called it a #10 boss fitting that uses o-rings to seal. He actually uses those fittings in one of his transmission filter kits. Anyway, they've got a 3/8" NPT female fitting in them that will allow you to install a hose barb to fit whatever size fuel line you're running.
Stacks!! Let's just say I've got something around 5" that should be at my doorstep tomorrow.
Mine's not as tall as yours, so I'm thinking the 5" should look just fine. But, it's all a matter of personal pereference I guess.Diesel trucks in the rain can be a scary thing. Similar thing happened to me a couple years ago. Light rain had just started to fall. I made a right turn onto an entrance ramp, gave it a little throttle to accelerate onto the highway, and almost instantly I'm completely sideways facing a huge concrete ditch. To this day, I'm not sure how I saved it. The ramp had a pretty wide shoulder which I'm sure helped, but when 22' and 8000# of truck suddenly goes sideways, you're almost at it's mercey. I thought I was going to end up in that ditch for sure. I'm thankful I didn't.
. I'm sick of my LSD, once I spray they both just break loose....I need a locker. Sounds like some good projects you have going. What are you thinking about doing next? And how's that new turbo setup working?

)Jeremy- i guess it's your racer instincts in action there. i know i would have been seeing the side of my truck hit the pavement. thanks for the advice, i will have to call up Bob.
Edub- i plan on getting an ATS housing, and 4 more gauges overhead. oil temp, pressure, coolant temp and fuel pressure. all electronic. plus i plan on making my trans temp sender work. after all that im saving for 35" tires and wheels just like Jeremy has. instead of 18's and 33's, im doing 20's and 35's. it will be the same amount of sidewall. i dont offroad except powersliding in the snow in a field. i want to get Open country MT's on them but i think the type of tire (Nitto TG's) will be what's going on there. after that, god only knows.
BTW i rrreaaallly like my turbo setup. it doesn't whistle (not the exhaust note whistle) as much as i like it to, so i think the ATS will cure that plus add flow.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
It lists all of the fittings with the threads. Let me know which one you are looking for and if there is a specific variation you want and I will see what I can do. Looking back now, I would have liked to have put a valve in that would have completely bypassed the Dahl filter just in case it leaked or I hit it with something, but that may be a bit hard for you since I know you removed the factory fuel filter as well, just a thought.
My 5" thingies should be finished installing today. I would have had it done last night, but someone forgot to make sure the batteries were charged for the drill & sawzall ... huh, wonder who that was ...
