Yet another dome light question

I know this topic has been covered ad nauseam and I've probably not read enough on this, but does this sound right:

My buddies 01 Ex will shut off the dome light after a short time with any or all the doors open. My 02 Ex will never shut the dome light out unless all doors are closed.

I guess I'm headed for the override switch but wanted to confirm before if I did that there wasn't an issue with something other component.

Thanks in advance!

There is a relay that will, should kill the light about 15 min even after the doors stay open. The problem is when out camping the kids are in and out all day and never let the lights rest.
The over ride will not harm anything. Just a kill power before the light bulb switch.

The under hood light does the same thing.
