I want to say Newton is 20 miles east of Des Moines. We pull from all over, get a lot travel in from Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, as well as Iowa of course. They also have camping facilities. You don't have to eat at the track either. There is a lot of tailgating type activities going on... I just bought an awning last fall to use, those July and August races get a little hot... Last year, the July race was the hottest day of the season. They filmed for a movie through that even. Had to set up sprinklers under the bleachers for people too cool down. Then the idiots that were policing the area were chasing people out from under the bleachers when the races started. My wife was called up on emergency staff by the hospital that is in charge of the emergency care due to all the heat exhaustion and stroke cases. She had a few choice words for the staff...
"but they wouldn't go watch the race".... I figure, they paid the money for the race, they can surely choose to not watch it. Heck, no different than all the beer and bathroom runs that so many feel the need to subject themselves to...
