M5OD master cylinder fluid
I have a '96 Bronco XL 3.0 with the M5od. I had to add considerable amount of fluid to clutch master cyl.--wasn't empty, but diaphram was completely extended in reservoir body. Is this typical for these hydraulic clutch trannies? This is the second time I have had to fill this in 2 years. Here's a laugh--the first time I found that the previous owner/dealer had filled the diaphram and not the reservoir. I have checked out the posts on this tranny--great info!

Look for signs of a leak coming out of the bottom of the bellhousing, or all along the line from the MC to the bellhousing. You're gonna be replacing something soon, so read the posts on pulling the transmission and changing the concentric slave.

My understanding is that it is normal for the level in the reservoir to lower over time (compensating for clutch wear). However, if it is excessive (like mine) you have a leak somewhere as steve83 mentioned.
Wish me fun dropping the tranny to replace the slave in my Ranger!

Yup, it's a 5.0---now if I could just get my brain in gear before I let the clutch out on my fingers...
I don't see any sign of obvious leaking, so it's hard to tell if the loss is happening gradually or quickly. This winter on a particularly cold day, the clutch pedal stayed on the floor when I pushed it in to start up--I had to pull the pedal back up. After that it worked fine. Probably not related, but then, it never happened on my '78 either. After reading the posts on pulling the tranny, I'm not really excited about tackling that job, so I wish you luck Billman on your job.
