Noticed that F450 and F550 brake rotors are larger than the ones on my '05 F350 PSD crew cab dually. Like about 7/8" front and over 1" rear. Question is: "IF" I upgrade the rotors, will I need 450/550 calipers, pads, etc, to take advantage of the larger braking surface?
Did I answer my own question?
I pull a 40' goose neck van w/ 3 braked axles, and no probs so far... Tow control is used, and much appreciated. But who knows the vagaries down the road? Sev yrs back w/ a '88 F350 towing a 40'er w/ no trailer brakes and headed north for Bakersfield drag races, when I/we stopped at the bottom of the grapevine to eat, the rubber boots on the front calipers were on fire from the quick stop. Since then I have been overly cautious to say the least.
it wont work, 450 and 550s use 10 lug wheels, and therefore 10 lug brakes.
there are aftermarket companies that have MUCH bigger brakes but be prepared to break out your wallet to the tune of $3-4000.

My truck has a daily weight of 12,000 lbs.
When it was time to do the brakes I did a lot of research and found ART brakes.
They are slotted and cyro treated and I have been very happy with them. Applied Rotor Technology
