Johnson Controls is one of the major battery manufacturers.
Yow, 675 CCA, that's the rating of the battery (albeit only one) in my little Saturn wagon. I suppose you'd get by on 675s if it never gets that cold where you are. Does it ever get below 20F in eastern WA?
If you ever plan on going to a high-power Super-Duty starter, those 675s probably wouldn't cut it.
Yes it gets below 20F quite often here I 90 near the state line. I've lived here a little over 30yrs and seen it as low as -20F a few times, a few miles north and it gets even colder and more often. The day I paid for this truck the guy I bought it from said meet him at Les Shawbs to pay for the truck, to my surprise he was having new battery's installed.
I guess he felt bad that they were old and I probably paid his asking price of $8000. The moral to this story is that Les Shawb battery's just keep on ticken (oh I shouldn't have said that)

Reason: correction
Glenn was it XS Power? Cause i found this battery at summit, its 1,360 CCA and costs $370 .
I stand corrected, they are the XSP-D6500 at $320 apiece. They are 1070 cca and are awsome. I did three mods at the same time so can't comment on each individual mod and its effects, . I did a high torque starter, a 220 amp alternator and these batteries. The motor will spin over so fast I keep thinking the starter is going to fly away. Before starting the amp gauge doesn't dive down as far as its used to. After its starts the needle jumps up to where it always is so I can't tell the glow plugs are even running.
Johnson Controls makes the group 65s for both Costco and Walmart, both of which get pretty good marks from Consumer Reports. If you're just running stock electrical stuff and you don't live in the Northern Territories, both of those brands run about $90. Just put 2 Everstart Maxx 65s in my truck this weekend, $190 and 3 year full replacement warranty. Helps me save money for those stage 1s!
Assuming I can convince the Minister of Finance, that is...
This is actually a common mis-conception... yes there are 3-4 battery manufacturers that make 90% of the worlds lead acid batteries.... But... private labels (Walmart, CSK, Autosone, etc.) can select various options like a menu to affect warranty length and cost....
So ... they can be a little different depending on the options.
Also, batteries of a given level tend to be close enough to not matter.
Example: most of the chain autoparts stores will have near enough the same batteries if they have the same warranty.
The Manufacturer batteries (BMW, Motorcraft, Honda, etc) tend to have the higher end options (heaver plating, thicker case, heavier straps, composite isolators, etc).

EDT: BTW, I think the main manufacturers are Interstate, Exide, Panasonic, and there is one in Taiwan... Bosch used to make their own but I think they now subcontract to one of the others. Note that this is all from memory.
Very true.
I wasn't saying all batteries are the same.
I was saying a lot of choices are the same between companies, just different name, different price.
Warranties are not from the Battery MFG either, they are though the company selling them.
