Well after leaving Houston and heading to wimberly sure expected better fuel mileage not pulling a trailer. Ended up arriving after running mostly 75 on highway to find I ended up getting 16mpg. Sure expected better but o well what a blast it was to drive.
Not going to get 20 doing 75. It really falls off after 70 mph.
SRW ? DRW? Temperature, winds, rolling hills, city driving, idling, winter diesel....lots of things can really change how these trucks give fuel economy.
I know how I can get 20 on the highway, but that speedo doesn't go past 70. 65 can yield mileage a bit over 20 if careful.
break in procedure is more important that the manual leads us to believe. also the faster you go the more air is being pushed out of the way, and as you know these trucks are not the most aerodynamic vehicles on the road. i believe i read somewhere that wind resistance increases proportionally to speed. and mpgs go down drastically. i think it starts dropping off pretty bad after 70
Srw lots of wind and light hills is about the only reason I don't care. Believe me I didn't buy this truck for mileage I bought it to pull a house and get better mileage then my 6.0 did.

Actually:
Drag = 1/2 * density * velocity^2 * frontal area * coefficient of drag
So...as velocity increases, the drag increases by the square.
Just went to MD to pick up our new 5ver. On the way down, unloaded, with SB/SRW/3.55's and only 500 or so miles on the clock, we got 21-22 mpg's at 70-75. Pulling 12k on the way home, it dropped to 11.
With 3.31s I got 21 mpg doing on Hwy 6 between Hempstead and College Station. Then coming back it decided it was time to regen mpg dropped to 17 before it started climbing again.
