hello all, I am looking at buying a 2005 f150 4x4 5.4l supercab, its bone stock except for a k&n air filter system, it has 149000 on. What kind of mpgs should I get? very little highway miles mostly short trips to and from farm, I currently have a f250 v10 and am filling up 3 times a week and only hauling a round bale of have a week.
am I gonna see enough savings to justify going to a 1/2 ton?
I have a 2008 screw 5.4L xlt my drive to work is 26 miles one way mix highway and city/town road driving I get 14mpg I have an aftermarket k&n and flowmaster exhuast . I drove from maine to ct and a whopping 14.69 mpg so it seems consistant.... good luck
John
I have an 06 Lariat 4x4 5.4.
my 96 litre tank would yield me about 550 kms at best doing 120k on the highway. (25 US gallon/350mi/75mph)
I have added a KN air filter, and AIRRAID throttle body spacer, and the best thing so far has been a GFORCE Computor chip. Combined, i have seen tanks of gas exceed 725km (450 miles)!
I wouldnt have believed the difference, but the filter and chip did the most, i noticed a little more mid range with the spacer.
Next is a airraid junior intake hose next week, i will let you know it things improve still!
Got an 08 Screw 5.4l 17' rims no major mods. Took it to Florida last yr got 18.8. Wife kept track of the numbers she lost the bet. I reran the miles/gas there. She bought me a night out. I LOVE this truck
Mine has never come close to 18mpg. And since I went to a bigger tire, it rarely gets more than 13.5-14. I have nothing done to the engine right now though. Edge chip is next on the list then it should jump to 16 at least.
The short trips are going to kill the gas mileage. I have only done 2 things to my truck to improve mileage. I added a Scanguage II so I could monitor my mileage and a tonneau cover. The cover got me about 2 mpg. On a nice day and if I am really easy on my truck I can get over 18 mpg. Which I don't think is too bad considering I have 4.10 gears.
I have an 04 f-150 with 5.4.Truck is all stock. Haven't checked it real close but would guess 13-14 running short trips. Took it from Va to OH in December. Bought cheap gas with ethenol and got 16.1 mpg. Took same trip in January on super with no ethenol and mileage went up to 19.6.
I drive very conservative, I get around 15 mixed driving during commute of 30 miles round trip. Long trips, 16-17 mpg driving 70-75. Short trips, mileage will suffer. As for your situation (short drives, minimal highway drives) expect 13-14. Again, it depends on your driving style and tires do impact mileage as well.

Dilas is right.
4 mile commute = 11mpg.
70 mph highway trip = almost 17mpg for me.
I have been known to flat pedal from time to time. The 93 octane tune will warrant that though.
I have an 05 F150 5.4L and I've been getting around 10-11 City, but I've also had some issues with my spark plugs. So that is probably a low number since I haven't filled back up since fixing my issues.
I still don't see how you guys are getting 18 plus. Are you driving 2 wheel drive trucks or something. I know that mine has never gotten that, and I have been in several other 5.4l trucks and they to never get anywhere near that kind of mileage.
