timing chain
does any one know if a 1991 5.8 has a steelgeared timing chain or is it one of those plastic covered gear type that wear the plastic off the gear and lets the engine jump time?

AFAIK, only the 4.9L used a phenolic cam gear to reduce the noise of the direct gear drive. All the engines with chains use steel gears, but the chains stretch. That causes the engine to lose or jump time much faster than the phenolic.
