efi exhaust
1. Are all efi exhausts for 240/300s interchangeable? More specific, I have a '74 300 and have found some selling from a '92 (it was a 4.9/300).
- I currently have headers with stock intake...not sure if I want to keep them (and if I can get an efi exhaust for a screaming deal, then maybe I keep them for future use).
2. What would be a decent price for a used efi (assuming good-functioning)?
3. What would I look for in buying a pair (certain places they crack, etc.)?
Thank you.
All 87+ EFI manifolds are pretty much identical. If there are changes, they're small, and nothing you'd notice. Any manifolds for any 240/300 will interchange, so there's no worries there.
I wouldn't spend any more than $60, unless they're NOS. I've seen them on Ebay for less, and I can usually get them in junk yards for about $20 for each.
Cracks would probably be the biggest thing. Next I'd check to be sure they're not warped (although I've never seen a set that are). Put a straight edge against the ports.
.It isn't so much that I want to do away with the headers - but they might be an issue, I think the PO trapped the starter, and I am not sure if i am in love with the exhaust...so really, it would to buy a pair of EFIs just in case it was easier in the future to use. To be honest, I think either would do for my application...
I was able to pick up a pair of EFI exhausts from a '92 for $35 (small risk I figure). I will probably make a new post regarding the EFIs that I picked up and best way to install (as they still have about 2' of 2" pipe from each, down to the 02 sensor connection). Seems like most on this forum have placed the Y just after the exhaust manifolds (within say 8"). I will have to shoot some good pics EFIs I picked up and post them.
I really want simplicity (and maybe pick up some minor upgrades where available) - and it seems that most people, whether they prefer headers or EFI for performance, seem to agree that EFIs are more install/forget/less problems...I know it is not a rule, but it seems rather agreed upon. Since I need a new exhaust, and I don't have the stock exhaust, this seems like a good place to pick up some minor performance gains.
Again, thanks for the help - always appreciated. What are the chances of trading headers for offy/clifford intake?
