BOY WHAT A TRIP!!
Well I made my annual snowbird trip to Fl. Before I left I had my DP chip installed. Awesome ! pulled the 34 ft fiver down the road with no problem. The only downside is I need the 80 econo reworked! My neck is gettin sore from the hard shifts. When I was in Panama City on Christmas Eve out of the blue the truck starts to slow and shimmy really bad. I limped to my brothers house and we could smell brakes. We pulled off the drivers side and she had got a little hot and and we could feel the drag. Had to wait over the holidays for the parts stored to open. Bought new caliper and brake line and all was well again in Super Duty ville. So now we are in the middle of March and guess what? Going down the road and suddenly the thing almost shakes out of my hands. Yup you guessed it the other side went bad!! I had to outsource the job this time. Found a local garage and they replaced the caliper and and brake line to the tune of a $156 . So now all seems well again. First time I have ever had to install a caliper on any car or truck I have owned . So maybe its catchup time.

I just did my front calipers in the E-350.
I replaced the 11 year old plastic piston calipers with ones with steel pistons.
The plastic pistons will distort if they get too hot and freeze up (not retract) in the calipers.
I did the hoses, calipers and ceramic pads for $178.00 and my labor.
I've got to replace the rotors as the right one warped from the heat of the frozen caliper.
$52.00 ea from Advance Auto.

Are the steel pucks a direct replacement?
I wonder, however, if heat isn't more easily transmitted back to the fluid as a result.
Easier to boil the fluid that way, and we all know what happens then!!!!
If you've never had it happen to you, you haven't experienced the thrill....
..... and panic!

Anyway, I don't doubt they're steel if you have rust on them.
I've had what I believe to be aluminum pucks before (though I can't remember what vehicle), and lots with some kind of brown bakelite/composite/whatever material, but I can't remember any of mine that were steel.
It's always something new....
