You've got a chance IMHO, I've watched my father do things like that with plastic before.
I would heat it slowly and try to bend/stretch things only once, I'm not sure how much wiggle-room there will be.

Luckily I've got the CC panels to practice with. They are junked out as is and marked up, so it's not a huge loss to practice on them. The trick will be figuring out how large an area to heat up and heating it evenly spaced around the area I want to recess, so that the stretching is uniform.
