low oil pressure

Can any one out there tell me what stock oil pressure is on 86 f150 300i6. I think mine is to low. 30 when cold 5 or 6 when hot.
Any info would help.

My '82 (recent rebuild) has 45-50 at part throttle and 12-15 at warm idle. Are you sure your gauge is OK? If not, I ran the last 50K on my old engine with "chronic low oil pressures" similar to what you describe ("N" in the NORMAL - on the gauge - with the engine warm). I now have an additional gauge with actual psi.

yes the gauge is brand new. It's a mechanical type gauge.

Without digging out the Chiltons, I'm gonna say you should be running 45-50 at startup and with throttle warm. Mine drops to 30 psi when hot and idle.

Ford says 40-60 @ 2000 rpm is normal. My readings are about exactly what broncr's are, and I've only got ~35K on the motor.

How hot is your engine running? If you have a real temp guage(with numbers on it), you should not be running any hotter than 195 at any point in time. Heat kills oil and oil pressure. I have a '87 F150, 190K. This is what I did to solve my oil pressure problem.

First install a cooler thermastat 180F or lower, Check your radiator for blockage, and have a real temp gage so you can see the thermo open and close. If it has a problem staying cool, chemically flush the rad. Mine had lots of corrosion to the point it would not lower the temp even on cool days past 198F on the highway (worse in traffic). Buy the prestone backflush kit, only $3, but you have to cut a heaterhose to install ( no biggie here).

Once you have the temp under control, Change your oil to the next thicker oil. If running a 10W??, try running SAE 30. When you change the oil, replace one quart with RISLONE. It is a mild engine cleaner. Drive with that in for a couple hundred miles, then check the oil color, It should be very dark ( like you oil does at 3000 miles). If it is, change it and the filter. Replace with new oil of the same wieght and check oil pressure. If the pressure still does not come up, Try 20W50. I had to use this to get my pressure up, No other problems and actually got alittle better MPG because of less friction and heat. Oil pressure stays in mid to upper 30's on the highway (warmed up) and 12-17 at Idle.

Solved my problem.

Good luck!
