I can not get my I-6 from running rich at idle. Does not blow black smoke driving down road.New within last 2 months O2,yf carb, egr, vacuum hoses,gaskets(carb,egr,exhaust/intake),exhaust manifold, throt. postioning solanoid and complete tune up. Spark is good and timing good.
Any ideas? I am thinking of rejetting down carb.
Thanks, Snapper 1

super runner steering
I pulled the AIT sensor out of the lower intake manifold, and it was caked with black sludge. took the upper off and pocked around inside the lower and they're all coated with goo. At least on my truck, i think the severe air restriction makes my truck run rich. need to find that thread on Seafoam, might try and clean it out this week end.
Thanks steve83 for the info. Will your info apply to a 84' that does not even have a check engine light. Were are the connections to hook up a VOM to test. I worked on the Bronco and it's running great except rich at idle,so bad, that my exhaust left a huge black soot mark on the side of my neighbor's car.
Any truth to this? I heard from the parts store that on yf carbs that to adjust air/fuel you turn the screw out. It does not make sense because I turn screw in till the engine stumbles and back out 1/2-3/4 turns till she's smooth. As a test I backed air/fuel screw out from were I normal set it. To my amazment there was just a slight increase in Rpm and no change to smoothness of the engine all the way until the screw came completely out of the carb, were it died.
You pull the codes the same way as the newer ones, you just have to use a test light at the connector since there's no check engine light. The self test connector is on the passenger side behind the battery.
You don't need to have a scan tool to pull the codes. All you need is a jumper wire and test light. This site is pretty helpful: http://www.dalidesign.com/hbook/index4.html
