First off, I am wondering what kind of gearing you have in the axle. You can go to a lower gear(high number), and it will get you lots more power, but the fuel mileage will suffer. It will suffer also if you put a 460 in it.
You are probably looking at about $500 to swap gears out in the rearend vs alot for a motor swap, and then you have to worry about all electronics, and everything.
It seems that I have seen a lot of people pulling with 300/6. I bet you have some really high (low number) gears. My first suggestion would be 4.10's or 3.73's depending on what you have now and what tranny you have.
