Looking to buy '05-'08 F150...I need your opinion.
Sorry if this has been asked before but I need some help and opinions.
I am looking to get into an '05-'08 F150 SCrew but I don't know anything about these years. I used to have an '02 F150 SCrew and I had become fairly familiar with that year and engine but don't know anything about the later years. With the years I have mentioned above, is there anything you guys would recommend that I staty away from or try to get into?
I need all your guys' opinions and tech advice.
Thanks

Depends on the engine, 4.2 doesn't matter. 5.4's had some issues.
'08 would be the best, by that time the spark plug issues were resolved and the cam phaser issues were resolved.
'06 - '07 would be the second best. The cam phaser issues was solved, but these years had the spark plug issue where they would break off when removing. However, Lesile makes a tool to get the broken parts out. With some patients and mechanical ability, this problem can be dealt with.
Prior to '06 had issues with the cam phasers, as long as the phasers have been replaced with the updated parts, then the truck should be fine, otherwise it would be wise to steer clear if you can.
I have an 08 Screw, love the truck, rides great, runs great.

Mileage is about 15 mpg average driving with mixed city and highway driving. Of course, it all depends on your driving style. Oh, it gets about 1-2 mpg improvement over previous generation. Hmm... 2007-2008 would be good if you can find at 50-60K miles on them. To answer your question about mileage on truck, I would look for vehicle that has average of no more than 15k per year on them. Less the better for sure.

I have a 2007 F150 5.4L .... I have been a Ford guy my whole driving life. This is the last Ford I will own. It has had cop problems, injectors, phasers, and a rough idle that noone can fix. 2 Ford dealers and 2 other shops and it is still as bad. Ford finally suggested I change the engine. Not gonna happen just because they have a problem they know about and cant or wont fix

I have an 06 F150 Lariat 4x4, 5.4. It has been an awesome truck.
if you get one, ensure the spark plugs have been replaced, and have them check the manifolds for cracks etc.
I have had mine 3 years now, and almost at 150kms now, have added a few gadgets for fuel efficiency also.
If you are worried about the fuel, look at the 09, as its 6 speed auto makes a huge fuel savings difference!
Cheers!

I noticeed that nobody mentioned injectors on the 05 5.4L engines. They had some problems with infectors on 04-05 5.4L engines as well. 06 and newer would be my preference with 08 being the best decision because the spark plug removal issue was finally addressed. As Mr. Rogue mentioned, 09 and newer got the 6 speed trans and mileage does improve with the 6 speed. But some have complained about shifting on the 09's.
