Check your tranny for a tag and/or serial number. Give that info to BD and get the answers to the questions above and send that info to DP for the chip re-burn.

Or did I miss something? Could be...I'm feeling old today.

Got any idea heo many qts of fluid it holds?
I have a BD tranny in my truck as well, also put in by the PO. Mine has a deep, aluminum pan and BD told me that it holds 6qts more than stock.

Closest BD transmission is 300 miles away.

Sounds to me like theres going to be lots of sending it back and forth , Im not sure I need the headache.

Wonder if theres another way?
As far as tuning with the BD tranny goes, all Jody asked was if I had a built/aftermarket trans. I told him it was a BD and he took care of me from there. I've had my DP for a couple yrs now and I absolutely love it. I got live tuned at RRE2010, but even before that, with Jody's "regular" tunes, the truck ran and shifted awesome. Hope this helps....

Find out when/ where Jody will be closest to you and have him live tune. It will run and shift the way you want when finished.

I don't think Jody makes it to Alaska very often.

PlatinumPete

Thanks for the info I imagine that Jody is familiar with DB and other "built" trans.

I am going for the programmer so I can set idle, shift points etc.

Maybe you can talk him into going to Alaska and he can stop off at my place in Central B.C. on his way?

Is a programmer and a tuner the same thing?

I'm a total newb. I kinda know what a transmission does and what I shouldn't do to it, but that's it. I have a laptop and a DP Tuner F6 chip with the USB connector. This allowed me to email James and tell him "the shift is really hard when I take off slowly in 60e tune." He'll ask which shift and help you understand what each shift is. 1-2, 2-3, torque converter lockup, Overdrive - that's the order. Jody does his thing and emails the altered tune to me. I then hook the laptop up to the chip and put the improved tune in there myself. No yanking the PCM out, no spending money on shipping, no waiting for the mail, no hassle, and I still get to use the other tunes while that's being squared away.

The software to download tunes into the chip is free on their website, and they have detailed instructions (with pictures) for anything relating to the software, the chip, the PCM, and the tune selector. Look deep into their Knowledge Base and you'll find all kinds of cool stuff in there.

Stock boost is 17 PSI max, my economy tunes give me 27 PSI max before the wastegate limits the pressure on its own (red line disconnected). If I re-connect the red line, the wastegate dumps around 23-25 PSI.

The absolute easiest way to install a boost gauge is to buy one of these [LINK] for an electronic gauge with a threaded sensor. You would remove the Air Intake Heater (AIH) and thread this in where you took the AIH out. Don't worry about losing the AIH - it serves no purpose unless an absolutely perfect set of circumstances exist, then it only prevents white smoke while idling cold.

If you go with a pneumatic gauge, use the red air line (driver side, above the turbo) that goes to the wastegate

My gauges are in my signature, just click the link in my sig.

Another easy way to install one is to put a Tee in the MAP line if you want to keep the AIH. I had that setup and switched to the plug linked above when I did the AIH delete.

My E99 F 350 doesn't have AIH

I am more interested in an EGT gauge. Do I have to drill a hole in the exhaust to thread in the probe for an EGT gauge (I know, the instructions that come with the gauge will have the answer, but I want to know now!).

I am planning on a SCT X3 SF Programmer from DP Tunes with their tunes on it.

Havn't placed an order yet but will soon.

Yep, drill a hole in the drive side manifold. It's really easy. Roll under, look up and drill in where it is convenient. I got a drill and tap set from RiffRaff for the job. IIRC I studied on a writeup from Diesel Manor, search around there are many. My advice would be 1) use no lube or grease, just take a magnet probe into the hole to get the shavings, or a vacuum and 2) do not tap in too deep. It is a tapered pipe thread and you just need the probe up into the exhaust flow, not the fitting.

What tunes are you considering?

My truck is a e99 so it probably doesnt have a AIH?

Vinford

I got your PM and send you and answer (I thought)

My BD trans is a 4R100 with a BD tc.

I just placed an order for a X3 SF programer. It will have DP custom tunes.

My e99 has the small volume injectors so I am not pushing for more than a 60 hp boost.

I asked for 60 hp econo tune, the 60 hp tow and the deceleration program.

I don't know what the canned tunes on the X3 are. I will look.

It will be three weeks before I am home and can see how the programer makes my truck run. I have a long trip planned from Alaska to Washington pulling a small trailer.

I will post results
