Oil

I've recently got my truck back on the road, and it's been running great. However this morning, it started having a loud lifter tick, so I checked the oil and it showed about 1mm of oil on the dipstick. I just changed the oil, and it isn't burning oil, but near the crossover pipe you can see oil on the bottom of the block and on the pipe itself.

Could this be a main seal? Would all 12 quarts be gone like that?

Thanks, Kyle

Truck is a 1987 f250 with the 6.9

Not all 11 quarts of oil are gone, if its reading that low on the dipstick, its lost about 3 quarts, i would check the condition of your CDR valve...its a can looking thing at the back of the intake manifold. Will find a picture and post it.

Check:
Your rocker covers.
Oil pressure sender.
Valley pan.

Those are typical oil leak locations, unfortunately so are the main seals, front and rear.

If a rear main seal were leaking (mine is a '93 turbo 7.3 idi) would oil be xferring into the transmission housing? If so, maybe that is where mine has been going. Tranny is an E4OD.

There's a drain on the bottom of the access cover on the bottom of the bellhousing, but if that was plugged up...

the wrong type of oil will induce high usage also
especially an oil that doe not have teh required anti foaming agents
with oil at the rear i would start by checking the oil sending unit and the valley pan first
