though t i read in here somewhere that some of you have had problems with your door lock motors...well, my pass.. side took a dump on me and i am wondering....can i buy a replacement part or should i look in bone yards for one? also..not to many bII's around here in boneyards.(there all on the road running great i guess..lol) would a ranger be o.k. to take one from? any help is help..lol thanx all!!! BM
You don't say what year your B II is but my advice is to get a new door lock motor. Depending on the age of your B II you may need to get it from the dealer. They run around $110 I think. Usually these things fail because they either wear out internally or else they get gummed up (the rubber boot over them often goes all gummy). So the one you get from a bone yard may well suffer from the same problems and it just isn't worth the effort it takes to change one of these. They are different for left and right side.
We have an auto store here that sells them. You could check some stores in your area. Never go to the dealer unless you absolutely have to. The part is called a power door lock actuator. Good luck. BTW...a ranger will work also, just try to get around the same year. '86-'88 are the same, then '89-90 are the same. You could also get by with a '91 ('92??) Explorer.
If you are handy at making things fit, you can buy aftermarket door lock solenoids for under 10 bucks. You will have to cut the factory plug and wire the new solenoid to it. I believe www.partsexpress.com has solenoids for sale. Or most any other company that sales electric door kits like www.jcwhitney.com
I just installed a solenoid from a 92 crownvic in my 90 f150. The 90 f150 has the same solenoid as my 88 broncoii. I had to reshape the pushrod with pliers but it works great. The trick is making the push rod the right length but just about any solenoid will work if you can make it fit.
I suspect that any ford about the same year model as yours will work if you make the push rod fit.
Help,
I got an actuator for my 2000 F-150 and took the door apart to change it. I got the door handle rod off, and the inside manual lock rod off, but i could not remove the key lock rod or get any fruther on the change. I put it back together and am now seeking advise as to how to finish this project. Has anyone done this before? any help would be appreciated.
