for diesels, the 2 batteries were directly wired together, for many RV applications, they are run through an isolator so you can drain the one battery with RV accessories and still have a full starting battery. its pretty straightforward: mount the battery, have cables made up, and you're good to go
maybe you could build your own battery box. in the 80s they put them both up under the hood, but it sounds like your old van was down on the frame rail. either position isn't too hard if you have space, just make it strong and secure, both against vibrations and against theft.
The prices I'm sure have changed since I got this. This is to add a second battery to the one already on the frame rail of an E350.

Hey!
I just spent some time with the girl at the Ford parts counter and we both can't figure out the exact parts I need to get the second battery mounted.
Maybe you could help.
She said that my 2005 could be different then my 2000 which had the second battery so if I order the wrong parts I'm stuck with them. (crap)
here is some paper work she had given me, maybe you could help me figure out what will work and which items I need to order.
As for the wiring, I'll do it myself and for the hardware, I'll source it myself too Unless you think it would be wise to get the nuts/bolts from Ford...
Hey BB---have you yet contacted Tousley Ford, one of the FTE sponsors? They might be a lot more helpful than the girl at your local stealership. Most times while ordered but new uninstalled parts CAN be returned its not something the dealers look forward to doing--understandably. They might charge a re-stocking fee but I can't see most of the better dealers outright refusing to take something back.
Your project might be VIN specific as the frames could be different--perhaps a bit of digging deeper by an enthusiastic dealer might be more helpful?
A member on a different forum is selling me his spare battery box for a very reasonable price, So I'll start with that one and if it fit/works then I'll have the knowledge to order another for the third battery. From the seller's pictures it looks exactly like the one that was in my 2000 PSD Van. The only thing not included is the bolts and the positive wire, but I will make/get those from local stores.
Now to directly answer your question, No I haven't contacted any of the FTE sponsors, but the girl at the local dealer was enthusiastic about helping me, she loves that I have these projects and probably spent over 40 mins with me... I think she even might like me lol

Not a thing wrong with that then! Best of luck?
You're on the right track with receiving the spare box, checking how it installs and if something similar will work in your situation. Since you're limited on tools and space a bit of creativity and ingenuity will be your best help then.
You taking any photos of the before, during and after? This might make a good reference for someone else considering the same thing.
