UN-claimed vehicles are relived of items of value then sold as appropriate usually to a parts yard for scrap price.
That is currently $12.50 a hundred weight.
Most of the vehicles that go UN-claimed are POS anyway.
I got a ½" Dewalt drill last week out of a rolled over '98 Ford F-150 that has sat in the yard for 5 months.
At $20 a day storage that's more than 3k alone.
A '98 is about 3,900# so that's 39 X $12.50 = $487.50 scrap
The original tow bill was @ $280.00 So the boss makes @ $350.00 profit from it.

Ah i see, that would be cool to find a bag of jewels or something ha... I have seen a few interesting items in our local scrap yard, but nothing of value. Mostly things like old condoms and clothing and a few empty cans of beer and stuff.

I used to build houses but then the Goldman sachs thought it a good idea to securitize a bunch of mortgages written to part time minimum wage earners and resell them as triple A bonds and then I couldnt build houses anymore because theyre still trying to get rid of the houses the people couldnt afford in the first place. Simple eh?
Now I mostly do kitchen and bath remodels.

I'm a Realtor with Windermere/Tri-Cities in Kennewick, serving the greater Tri-Cities area helping people better their lives with a home that meets their needs and stays within their budget. Been doing that for 10 years now. Before that, I was an automotive painter and car builder, spending the better part of 23 years building show cars, street rods, high end restorations, and the like.

I'm an ambulance driver. I'd say who I work for, but they hate it when one mentions them on any kind of social forum. But I can say they're an American Medical company that Responds to emergencies.

Connect the dots lol
