I plan to sell my truck in the late spring and am wondering if a new paint job will bring my resale value up? I have the opportunity to have it painted professionally for a good price of around $600 labor + paint. There is no body dents or anything to worry about.
Check www.kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book)and run you truck as Good and then excellent condition that will a least give you a idea of what the "books" say. Personally speaking I would pay more for a better looking finish.

Yes, painting would bring the value up, however, up enough to cover the cost you made to repaint it? no. The labor is 600, but paint is expensive and it'll probably bring the total to about 1000 if not more. Unless the paint you have is AWFUL, than it's not going to bring the resale up 1000 dollars IMO.

Based on my experience (due to my parents owning a used car lot) it is generally frowned upon amongst car dealers that a car has been repainted.
This always got me wondering - especially when it seemed to be a relatively nice paint job - but apparently it can be a hint of the vehicle being wrecked, or some other thing. I just know I've heard descriptions like "blah, blah, blah," about a car, "but it's been repainted..." - and the "but" part means it is worth less at the auction or the lot.
Keep in mind that just about any restoration project on a car will generally always bring in less money upon resale than the owner put in to it. It's just about a given.
If you plan to just trade it in at a car dealership, don't even worry about it.
I would only re-paint if it helped you sell it faster.I have seen a few ford trucks around here and they sit on the lawn for a while. If your'e in a hurry to sell you might think about painting for better curb appeal.
I agree with Gammadriver, makes a good point that I didn't think of.

The paints not too bad, except the middle paint (med. mocha) is really thin and has a few scratches. I wax the truck often, and it doesn't have any oxidation or orange peel.
I have a deep scratch on my passanger door that i fill with that new turtle wax stuff, forget what it's called. They have it at any place that sells waxes and cleaners. They give you a stick that looks like a crayon to fill the scratch and then some colored wax and it makes the scratch a little easier on the eyes.
