new FORD PSD owner
Just wanted to say Hi I am a new Ford truck owner. Last year I bought a new travel trailer that I thought I could tow with my 1500 GMC Yukon... boy was I wrong. I have a 29' Airstream and its supposed to only weight 6500 lbs but its just way too much for that little gmc to tow safely with my wife and kids in the car... so I started looking for a truck.
I wanted a GM product but I kept my options open and looked for Ford as well. I am also a Diesel mechanic for Caterpillar so I am no stranger to the diesel market. I have an 04 f450 for a work truck with the 6.0L. Sorry guys, we have a fleet of over 40 of these trucks and I wouldnt touch one of them in my personal life with a 10 foot pole. (we can discuss that in another thread!)So I kept my eyes open for a 7.3L or a Duramax.
Long story short the GM people are nuts. No way I am paying $30k for a 6/7 year old truck with 100k on it. I loved the ads... "low milage" and it has 178k miles with a plow and 5th wheel. Suddenly I found myself searching the country for a 7.3L PSD!
After 3 months of looking I found an 03 F350 4x2 XLT, CC, SRW, short bed with only 34k miles on it. Its bone stock but it did a little towing with its former owner. It has the bars in the bed for a 5th wheel. The previous owner has a 30/32 foot camper they pulled. They didn't use it much as far as I can tell I figure even at 50% work duty its only got 15k miles of towing. I think I got a decent deal on it I payed $20k. Did I do ok? It was the best deal I could find especially for the milage.
I love this truck I have no doubt it will pull my trailer, wife and kids with no problem. I am looking forward to many years of owning it. I joined here because when i was researching trucks, this site and the info on it, came up everytime!
