I'm pretty sure the 460 was availablein that year chassis.I bought a set of heddman headers for my 460 in an '88 f250 with swap mounts and they fit fine.Try Summit Racing or Jegs, they have a good selection. Some folks have used L&L Products headers, very good quality but they can be pricey. If you drive in the winter on salty roads, you'll probably want a thicker gauge ceramic coated style for durability.

It was available that year but not in the 4x4 so i changed it to a 460, but when i did the engine swap i didn't want to change the towers. So i figured out the motor mounts from a 66 fair lane 500 work and you wont need to change the towers. So are there any motor swap headers that fit that application.

Don't know about motor swap headers, but I do know that there are some nice 460 4x4 specific fender exit headers. Can get pricey, but have great flow

Check with landlproducts.com (IIRC). I have heard they will modify headers for specific applications that are close to what they already build. And they may have the correct motor mounts too.

Yeah, someone already mentioned them but L&L headers are under $700 for that application and are great quality

L&L Products

Yes, L & L headers may be great, but if you want them in this lifetime you better order now. I ordered a set close to a month ago and called today to see when they are going to ship and the lady told me that they don't even have the pipe to make them. WTF? I know it takes time to manufacture and get coated, but wouldn't you think they might have a set on a shelf somewhere and if they don't they could make some in a month? They don't have that big of a variety that they couldn't do that. Anyways, thats my rant for today.

Nope, no 460 in the '78 4x4.

78 headers

I have used headman 2wd headers, they only work for an automatic trans. Yo need to do a little cutting and fab work, but its real easy.

Didn't know that they(460) weren't available in 4x4.Headers probably interfere with front diff and/or steering components.OP I'm not a fan of fenderwell headers either but have you looked at either shorties or mid length headers as an option?
