hello all i have a ford 1994 f150 with a 5.8 4x4 and i was wondering if there is any chips or power commanders out there that anyone has tried that worked well for them.... im not looking for 100 hp just a little more pick up and diffrent shifting times lol
thanks for the help
A chip for trucks like these will simply bump the timing to make it more aggressive. And for the low introductory cost of FREE, you can do that yourself.
A 6litre tune up was created on the forum posted above by a guy with the screen name 6litre. It's just new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing advance, and coil. I think that's everything. It really perks the motor up with the simple bolt on replacements. But after that, get a set of long tube headers, a better exhaust system that flows much better, and enjoy. The other thing to know is that a cold air intake does no amount of good for these motors as the intake system is already very efficient. As for shifting times and all, what transmission is in your truck?
chips are amazing in turbo diesels.. but gas motors..? really? my father has a dodge dakota that he put a chip in to give him a whopping 1-2mpg more per gallon.. catch is he has to run premium.. which doesn't actually make it worth it.. he swears its doing him a world of good but he is one of those guys who hears it from someone and tells it to everyone.. honestly if you are looking for some good gains.. these guys have said enough no need for me to say the exact same thing.. but chips won't do you a thing..
just my advice.. do whatever..
what size tires are you running also? This is important to know because anything larger then a 31" tire will cause the e4od to not shift properly until the PSOM has been properly calibrated. not to mention the effect the tire size in combo with gearing in the truck will all play a factor in how it performs.
