I have a 2003 5.4L EB Expy and was wondering if anyone else was having problems with the mirrors i.e... the reverse mirrors sometimes dont work, they lose their memory often, when key fobs are used the mirrors try to go to the left or right extreme and click for about 10 seconds. I brought it to the shop and the technician said this was a common problem with the controller in the mirror and that Ford was going to soon be coming out with a replacement. He was unable to give me a time line. I am thinking of having them replace it anyway, since I did pay a large sum of money and would rather they work properly again. Maybe I'll luck out and get one that isn't going to malfunction. Is anyone else having this problem and what would you do? Also, I was wondering if my EXPY had load leveling suspension? How much can I realistically tow?
Welcome and yes the reverse mirror problem has been talked about numerous times here. We're all still waiting for the fix.
It has to do with the system losing the positioning of the mirror when it "bottoms" out. For example if your mirrors are set angled too low then when it tilts it further when reversing then the system is confused as to the positioning of the mirror until it is reset (manually adjusting it back to the center point). If you leave it then you get that "twitching" action like the mirror wants to tear itself out.
No point in getting it replaced if it really isn't fixed yet. Why is it so hard? Other models and brands have had tilting mirrors for years???
I was sent to the link given for the anbswer to this well known problem. This ifo was sent from another site by "Warren Johnson"

I'm taking my 2003 EB Expy in tomorrow for a few small probs, this being the main.
If I hand Ford this message with these instructions, are they going to know what to do? If not, what do I do?
Just had my passenger mirror replaced - going nuts trying to reset itself all the time AND the reverse mirrors. Both work great now.
Whoever hit on the "bad ground" theory is right on. My reverse mirror function worked fine when it rained and ONLY when it rained - better ground!
Dealer also replaced serpentine belt - squealing since purchase. What final inspector would let that leave the factory squealing like it was! Otherwise love my Expy. I don't think my E/E seat function works correctly either, but I don't need it!
