When is Ford going to come out with the new supper duty frame like Dodge and Chev. has? I pland on ordering a F350 Lariat (maybe a LE still waiting for price differance) 6.0 auto. Take care new to board, so take it easy on me.
Currently, Ford offsets their lack of "technology" with bulk. I'd look for the next generation of SD (due in '05) to have a hydro-formed frame like GM & Dodge.

articulation? ride comfort? 2WD?
I'd be suprised if Ford keeps the leafs up-front on the next generation SD. I think they'll follow Dodge with coils for improved ride comfort. Hopefully, I'll be wrong.

Ever carry a plow out front of a coil spring truck?? can you say air bags? Lifted a coil sprung truck? and say why do my tires wear on the insides? Ride comfort? thats what cars and suv's are for!
Give me a leaf sprung axle or give me.....well I dunno at least a choice!!!
Whole reason I got into the SD's was because I could get the front straight axle without buyin a DRW.
Don't get me wrong, I love technology, but I like my truck the way it is! well almost
Lifts are easy- just buy longer coils!
As for the plow, you can get coils with various deflection rates- just like leaf springs.
Ford has to cater to the "masses" and I'm afraid they are clammoring for soft rides and well-behaved road manners. I don't think Ford will give up the SFA, but I think they'll make a compromise with coil springs up front. Again, I really hope I'm wrong. But we'll have to wait another year at least before we know for sure.
yeah nomo.. longer coils, sorry nomo but i just finished lifting my 70' bronco with coil springs and it aint that simple.. ever heard of radius arms? Thats the beauty of leaf springs..thats all there is

Thats fine for and inch or two of lift, But there are a few more parts you will need when you get into the bigger lifts, that make the cost a lot more expensive than the tried and true leaf sprung straight axle.
I feel the same about ESOF compared t the manual lever type transfer shift and manual hubs, but no need to bring that whole ugly thread back
Sorry I had to leave the fun... only reason I was up so early was because I had to upgrade a server at 10am CDT.
Now that work, mowing and oil changes are done, I'll remind everyone that there are TONS of lifted coil-sprung vehicles out there. I never said it was cheaper to lift them, just that it's possible.

Personally, I don't see any problems with the ride. I have alot of people tell me that my truck rides better than alot of cars. I also have a Crown Vic. I put alot more miles on the truck than the car because I like the ride of the truck better.
