I am new to the forum. My name is Katlin and I have a 1976 Ford F100 with a 302. I just had the motor rebuilt but he did not rebuild the carb. I rebuilt it myself today. It's a motocraft (cannot find a model number) 2 barrel carb. Used a universal rebuild kit.
I got it back on the truck, started it up and it is spewing gas out of the 2 holes sticking up on the front of the bowl cover, just in front of the long butterfly that opens and closes. Sorry, not too good with all the terminology.
Anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to why it would be doing this or what I have done wrong? Thanks so much!
Your float or needle valve (controlled by the float) is not working right. Time to have another look in the float bowl...the spring clip that holds the float in place is probably not seated correctly.

The pin on the float hinge sits down in the channel and the retainer clips right in. Not sure how else it would be seated incorrectly. Does the needle need to be a certain way? It drops right down in there......
did you set the float bowl height ? check that while you have the carb apart again kits normally include a little paper ruler to set it correctly .
I do believe so. On the adjustment chart it says the float should be 7/16". The ruler included is in 32nd's with marks at 8, 12, 16, 20, etc. So 7/16 would be 14/32nd's, right? That's where I set the float height. I'm trying...!
If I could post attachments, I'd have a pic for you, but I can't.
If the float is not closing the needle valve, fuel pump continues to push fuel thru it.
Hi gfw1985,
The needle is seated in the seat assembly. The needle has a clip with a hanger and that goes on the hook on the float right? It is on there and the float clip seated on the assembly.
float could be bad (cracked )
take the float out and shake it if liquid is in float you need to replace it .
float needs to" float" in gas to close needle .

If the needle was fully seated you would not have your problem. Not trying to run you off but there is a section here devoted to '73-'79 trucks that may prove more beneficial to you.

Thank you elgemcdlf, I took the carb apart again, not sure what I did, but it is no longer spewing gas from the bowel cover. I just need my idle adjusted, which I know nothing about
