So the search function was leading me in different dirctions or I missed something.
Anyway we got my buddys 302 put back in his 84 with the 4bbl weiland intake and torque cam, took awhile to figure out why we were getting popping through the carb. I timed it to 8btdc with an inductive light, but still popping, the firing order was correct, BUT my no1 plug wire was not on the no1 marked terminal on the cap.
Moved all the wires one spot over and no more issues, can anyone tell me why this is?
Why does the number one terminal matter, never was a big deal with the old breaker point ignition.
Well it does help to have the rotor pointing at the #1 plug when you want to fire the #1 cylinder. It really shouldn't matter where the wires are as long as the dizzy is installed to point to the terminal that the #1 plug wire is on.
I read the technical explanation once but don't remember the specifics, but suffice it to say it matters, the distributor pickup has got a notion of #1 which it feeds to the ICM for reasons I don't remember.

Thanks I was hoping it wasn't something else wierd, just wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy.
Tried to rep but I have to spread the love around. . .
