The rust part is something I still find amazing. I've got a neighbor who is 88 that has a car from the 40's that he parked out in his pasture when it broke down many decades ago. It has less rust on it than I see in several of the rust belt photos I see on here.

I'd probably be wise to stick with a Texas truck (or technically, he would), just to avoid the rust issues and keep the prices down. I was just basically looking for trends in the rest of the country.

But I'm not opposed to taking a trip to LA if you find a great deal. It would be a good excuse to take a trip and eat some good food.

If he wants a single cab I'll make him a good deal. I'll even meet you half way and bring the food. Lol. Might be a little tight with the family

Seems like the occasional good deals I've come across lately have been on houston craigslist. Theres also a sweet single cab in austin but I can't remember the asking price. Then it seems like I know about this great running ext cab in College Station. I bet he could pull an alright deal on it

I recently dropped 7500 on a 96 XLT CCLB 4x4 5speed with 275k. Overall condition is good, it had a few leaks but nothing life threatening.

It would be kind of funny if you found something though. Austin helped me by checking out my wife's truck at a local dealer down in your neck of the woods. Haven't seen him online for a while. How's he doing?
I think Austin is doing alright. I haven't heard from him in awhile either. I think I remember him calling and asking me if I wanted to go with him to check that truck out a couple years ago. LOL

So would he be opposed to looking at F-250s or no? I usually find F-250's a bit cheaper, but they have the TTB and some people aren't down with that. Then again if he's looking at 2wd then we can probably find him a pretty good deal. I've run across a few regular cabs with around 200-250k miles for pretty cheap in the past year. It's the crew cab 4x4s that people are usually wanting your life savings for. Some of the extended cab 4x4s are even getting expensive.

EDIT: here's a bunch for you to look through. There's a few in there that are fairly decent priced. I ran across several nice F-250s that were almost $10k.

This one may be worth checking out. Ad says 127k miles and it's $6900

He'd probably take a single cab, but he should really hold out for at least an extended cab for the little one.

If you decide to let it go for cheap, let me know. Otherwise I think he'll try and hold out for a great deal instead of just an alright one.

Will you keep him or are you going to send him back.

Actually it's not a good time for that. Baby's due too soon and he's trying to hold down 2 jobs at the moment.

I think he'd prefer 4wd, but might consider a 2wd. He could probably live with a 250.

No comment. The inside of my truck doesn't look any better than that one.

Also it looks lime it's been wrecked. Look at the pic of the driver front fender and door. No trim on fender and the hood and fender are brighter than the door

I hear ya. I don't know what his budget is but I'm definitely open to an offer if it is something he is interested in but no big deal if not. I'll hate to see it go when it does so I'm not in the biggest hurry.

Just for fun: I live in ag/ranch country, Santa Maria, CA, great weather. Have owned a '97 F350 CC dually diesel (NO 4X4) (digital sound, air horns, 6-disk CD player) since '99, am second owner, consider the truck just an extension of my purse! First owner was retired USA pilot who kept truck like his airplane, perfecto! Bought at 30K miles, perfect condition; towed 32' travel trailer for 12? years and now have 'lit'.

Have all maint. records, has been maintained IAW owner's handbook and better! Still shiny tho back bumper and sides of dually fenders show lack of driving skill early days! No rust, just completed 2nd 120K Ford service check AT 152k, NO problems, leaks, tranny, brakes, nada!

Service manager asked me what I thought it was worth...guessed about $7500; he said I could probably get $15,500 in this town! How bout THAT! Nice old truck! No brag, just fact, love my truck!

And ALL fuel here is EXPENSIVE! SF! Marty

I'm like most of the guys from Texas on here, the best deals are on Craigslist. The OBS trucks are holding their own, if not climbing. In my opinion if you are going to drive a truck it might as well be a diesel even with fuel prices the way they are. The gas trucks don't get much better fuel mileage if any, than our trucks do. We definitely have longevity on our side vs. the gas engine.

Here is a link to a dealer in Houston with a couple of nice trucks. Used Cars Houston | Used Car Dealer TX | Everest Motors Just a few weeks ago the red crew cab dually was listed for $7995. They dropped it to $6995 and then last week raised it to $9995. Go figure!
