just got back from commifornia, yep gas prices were about a whole $$$$ more than here in utah. I really don't get why its so much more expensive there.
Last time I looked, Cali was one of the highest for taxing diesel fuel at around $.065/gal. Combined with the California mandated cetane rating (50 I think), high property value, property taxes, and outright greed, some places are ridiculous.
I should say that the surrounding stations are well over a dollar lower (4.50-4.80ish). This station is right off the freeway in the San Fernando Valley (which if it were it's own city it would be 5th largest in the nation) so it's not way out in the boonies. When I drove by the sign I did a triple take and had to get a snapshot. Hate to think how long those tanks are gonna sit before the next load.

Its another way for nys to make it "small bussiness friendly"lol. Its still cheaper to run this truck over my old 6.2L. I know on gas the tax is over $1.15/gal here
I honestly don't think we'll see 8.00 / gal diesel fuel.
Oil companies currently have a monopoly, or even better than a monopoly.
There are a few alternative oil producing methods and companies, which can darn near match oil for the current diesel cost.
If diesel goes up and stays up for too long, these alternative companies won't have any trouble securing funds for massive start up's. I guarantee the price at the pump will magically go super low when that happens, maybe even enough to snub a few companies out. But the threat is real, the price of oil will not just go to 8.00$ and stay there.
The oil companies are smart, i expect them to always have they're price lower than alternatives, so they can sell more.
This makes it rough for alternative methods like oil algae.
In exactly 9 weeks, 5 days 19 hours and 12 minutes, I'm going to have fourteen thousand pounds of camping gear, ATVs and a fifth wheel strapped to the back of my truck and we're going to head for the mountains, diesel prices and HPFP failures be damned. I will have a smile on my face and my foot will be firmly planted to the floor.
I can only hope there is less snow than last year because it really sucks riding an ATV behind a bulldozer.
The end of the trail.....until they plow a little further.
