Making Progress 1956 F-100

I've just been able to make some progress on my truck, so I wanted to shre my fun. My Dana 44 rear end is being rebuilt, and it's getting close to completion.

I started with this:

And just yanked it out last week or so:

Brought the case home to clean:

Cleaned:

Got all new parts since all the old parts were absolutely toast.
Auburn Posi carrier, Superior Ring and pinion, all new bearings and seals:

I've got new drums on the way and will be blasting and painting my backing plates and spring perches, then will buy my new rear springs!!

Planning to get Posies super slider rear spprings with 3" drop. With my bracket relocation, I should then have 4.5" drop in the back. I'm thinking I will stay with the stock "y" hanger, otherwise I would have a 5.5" drop which seems too much? Anyway, having some fun, getting this project going.

HeeeeHawwwww!

Thanks Jim, We just had a medical and a move, so it's good to be settled in enough to make progress.

Your truck is looking good - you sure have done great work with it! I look forward to having mine on the road.

Joe

After:

Only one or two more paychecks before I can get my new rear springs!

Looking real good! Do you have a good mechanic to install/set up your gears?

Hey Tinman - I have the rear end at Central 4 wheel drive in Sacramento getting the internals installed/set up. Should have the rebuilt unit back next week. Then time to but new springs!!

Another small step

A little more progress and a little closer to getting this truck on the road!

Got new rear drums:

Picked up my rebuilt rear end:

Drums fit:

Got new distributor for my "someday" engine rebuild:

Next will paint all rear end parts while saving the $$$ for new rear springs.

Joe
