Autometer pyr will not zero &

My son and I installed a 3 gauge pillar mount from autometer yesterday after installing the yards of wires and that LOVELY 1/8th plastic pressure tubing wrestling match, we turned the key and the pyro meter stayed at 200 after starting and running for awhile it did move upward but after a cool down or with the key off it will not drop below 200 and while running seems to be indicating 200deg to warm 800 vs 600 no load, gravel road drive, after sitting overnight (it was 32deg last night) its still reading 200deg seems like it is not self calibrating or is calibrated wrong from autometer? Any other ideas?? (YES we used separate clean to metal grounds)

It's not uncommon to get a bad gauge. Mine was bad from autometer. I would call their customer service. They had me disconnect the leads to the probe at the gauge and turn the key on. Leave the + and ground hooked up. The gauge should read ambient temperature. Mine would stay at the 6 o clock position so they said the gauge was bad. They had me send it in and they replaced it.

What Grant said, but it could me the meter or the probe.

Disconnect wires to EGT probe. Does the meter zero?

Yes - Bad probe

No - Bad meter

My autometer pyro does the same thing, key off the gauge reads just above 100deg. Had autometer send me another and same thing, they told me that its fine and thats just the way it is. Long story short, i will never buy an autometer product again.

I have been using Autometer gauges for about 30 yrs and never an issue. And I have used them in boats, race cars, motorhomes and trucks. But it good to know if there is an issue they will make it right.

My pyro gauge rests at whatever temp it read when the key was turned off. When cold, it reads near ambient with key on and rises after starting.

I have had autometer gauges for 2 years and mine will do the same, I called Autometer, and was told it is normal for the pyrometer to not go lower than 200* They said it would read correct at higher temps. They said you would never need to know the actual temp as long as it was at 200 or less. When I start the engine it will go up to 300 or so at idle. Others on this fourm have had the same thing and have had no problems.

Edit: this issue is only with the Pyrometer, all other gauges are fine.

Mine does the same. The difference might be different models. I have the autometer phantom gauges.

I can't believe a pyro gauge the reads 200 when it is cold would be acceptable to anyone. But my ISSPRO EV2's are flawless!

I went out and shot the uppipe (engine off/ sat overnight) where my pyro probe is mounted with my IR temp gun. The pyro gauge (key on) is reading within 20*(+/- 5) of the temp gun. That's close enough for me. I'll have to check it running later and make another comparison.

These are Autometer phantom gauges, when they arrived the pyro was reading 200deg we assumed it would "re-set" itself after instillation and power was added, no luck, I read it should read 100deg if you disconnect the leads at the gauge? It appears to be reading 200deg +- to hot at all readings, truck is mostly stock Diamond 4in straight pipe exhaust and cold air intake system gauge is responsive but should we actually ever hit 800deg truck unloaded highway speeds 40deg outside temps? We would be "ok"with the 200deg issue IF we knew the gauge was accurate the rest of the time, just stinks to try and buy American then have to settle..Thanks for the info guys...
