I'm helping my buddy on a truck he just bought as a rebuilder. It was hit light in the lower left front which broke the left radius arm bracket and some minor sheet metal in the front...nothing serious. He got the bracket replaced and got the truck started. It runs good but it has trouble shifting out of first gear, it tries to shift and then it feels like it shifts back into first and almost puts you through the windshield. I scanned it and it had the Po772 Shift Solenoid E stuck on. We replaced that solenoid and it is still doing the same thing. I also went over wiring to make sure there weren't any pinched wires, etc from the accident but didn't see anything suspicious. Any ideas fellas. Thanks in advance.
Did you reset and clear the codes? If not they need to be. If you did, well, start by checking the connectors at the transmission and TCM as well. Make sure there are no damaged pins.
I've actually experienced this code once in a truck, it turned out to be a short internal to the PCM and needed a new one. Not saying that is your case. But this is an issue that really requires a scanner of some sort to diagnose the problem. That, or checking a lot of wires, in and out of the tranny to find. Then if all that is good you'd be down to the solenoid (if you got a bad one), TCM, or PCM...
