transfer case bushings

Hey guys, truck is a 1964 f250 4x4 with a t98 and a divorced t-case. The bushings are bad and I'd like to find out if anyone has a part number or knows where to get aftermarket bushings, I'm also going to see if I can get polyurethane ones if I can. Is solid mounting the t-case a bad idea?

As much flex as you have going on with a 4wd I think i would try to stay with rubber or for a little more rigidity go with the polyurethane. Solid ones might start breaking parts or you might start to feel the drive train vibrations without it being isolated.

I took some poly spring bushungs and cut the small dia part off and shortened the steel insert for my 64. Usually free or really cheap at your local 4x4 shop. Had my in for years no problems.

What case do I have? D24? It has both high and low range, my old 66 was only a single speed.

I'm not sure if it is 4th gear now, it seems to happen over a certian speed not what gear I'm in, it would have to be a bearing on the output shaft or the transfercase but Im not sure how to be sure.

Get the vehical lifted off the ground. All 4 wheels off the ground. Get youself a mechanics stethascope and listen as someone runs the truck up thru the gears. If it is badly worn out you should be able to pinpoint where the noise is comming from. Make sure that when you have the truck lifted off the ground it is solidly stabilized. Do not do this just sitting on jacks. Block up the frame with 6x6s or box 4x4s. Be careful of the spinning wheels and driveshafts. This is all common sense stuff but today common sense is not very common.

Well I was under the truck yesterday fighting with the headers to change the gaskets and my tcase looked kinda funny. I get a closer look and it was only hanging on by 1 side, the other side bolts fell out where the mount bolts to the frame. Got some bolts and fixed her up and guess what, no more grinding/vibration lol
