With the ZF6 you would need to upgrade the clutch to handle that much power. Its more a question of what your goals are. A manual truck is hampered by the long sifts in the ZF6 so if you are looking to go fast, the 4R100 is your trans
with the 6sp its harder to get the turbo to spool correct? i want to lay down 500hp on the dyno and be able to compete wit the cummins n dmaxs but still be able to pull once in awhile
ok how do you think a 71mm turbo is going to do with the 6 speed? the swap would be easy enough having the truck right? Im going to research the swap a little bit. It would probably be a wise chose to just get a dual disk for it right away if i do?
Kind of off topic, but...Last time I was at BTS his latest project was removing the 6 speed manual from a 2008 GT500 Supercharged Mustang and putting a 4R100 in it's place. Faster shifts with a good built auto, and a good builder can handle the power. I know not long ago he also did a trans for a shop with a 6.4 they removed the 5R110 and put a 4R100 in it's place too.
You will find a few ZF6 swap writeups CAMODOWN is the user I think of but he may not have actually done a writeup. Not terribly difficult though. I think all said and done though he had as much in it as a BTS with a lifetime warranty would have been, no smoking clutches either.
i have to money right now to tie up in buying this truck cheap and swaping trans and then selling it and then getting turbo n injectors but its up in the air bc i test drove a 6sp before and didnt like i thought the gears were to close together and ran the risk of putting it in low instead of second. With the auto i would at least have the peace of mind that its brand new just in an old case where with the swap i don't know any maintenance records on the truck n neither does the guy that has it. But in the long run i believe the bts would hold a lot longer than the handshaker with a dual disk from south bend to the every day driving and occasional hot rodding n racing, I guess some feed back from the guys that have a bts would be nice.
I really like driving a manual! But when it comes to my truck and it's twin with a six speed, I love my bts! Hammer down and go, don't look back, doesn't miss a shift, doesn't grind the gears, can load it up for one hell of a launch, and do one mean burn out! I'm sure this can be accomplished in a palm shaker but I just don't know if it can take that abuse like the bts is known for! Save yourself some trouble and skip the swap and spend that extra on your current truck. My .02
