It's a shame that they don't do those anymore. The last ones I had were on a 79 Caprice, 82 Blazer and 92 Crown Vic.

Just as new vehicles have no more power seats on the passenger side... not good.

My 2011 Limited EL has every option under the sun but no underhood light. So It would need to be added manually. My hood has a sensor switch that I suspect is associated with the factory remote start. It is on the drivers side about half way down the hood.

I'm not sure if it is installed in all Expy's but if it is it could be used to power a relay/light.

Man,the coolest light I ever saw was on my 93 GMC that I owned...It was facory mounted on the right side inner fender. It was on an assembly that was a reel so that you could extend the light to where-ever you needed and the lights base was magnetic. When you were done, all you had to do was just reel it back in and turn off the light...."Reely" pretty cool...I might just go junkin' and see if I could find one and mount it somewhere with enough real estate...

My Suburban has one of those reel lights. It is a '96. It is awesome.

Here are pictures of the Hood Switch on my 2011 Expy.

If anybody is interested... This is what ecyrbh is talking about. The reel light is actually a second light that is switched. The light attached to the switch lights when the hood is opened. The reel light has a 7-12 ft cord. Very handy but I have used it seldomly as the Suburban has been extremely reliable.

Those reel lights used to be included on the Jeep cherokee.
They were used on some GM trucks the part number is 15990293

Here is a link for one http://www.gmpartsdirect.com
use part # above.

maybe search the salvage yards pick & pull

Very useful/cool

My 78' has one that has a mercury switch built in. There is just one wire going to the battery. Should be easy to retro one from another Ford. The reason they don't put them in is they don't want you doing any work on it, they want it taken to the dealer.

I miss Mercury switches. Easy and reliable, just carcinogenic. They sell for dirt cheap at junkyards btw

Huh?

Granted they've all been Limited/Lariat, but all my newer Fords have power passenger seats. The 12 Flex has it

Exactly and in many cars it's an option. I am almost positive the rental Grand Marquis I had did not have it.
My old Crown Vic had it though as well as 2 lights in the visors instead of one

Well my '11 Expedition Limited has a "plethora" of goodies including many-way power passenger seats.

It's a marketing thing and a way to separate the consumer from his/her money. And Ford did a remarkable job of doing just that with me.
