I have a 1983 Ford Bronco, 6.9L Turbo Diesel that I am in the process of turning into an off road monster of sorts. Over the last week or so I have been redoing all the wiring in the truck as the previous owner was an idiot and did nothing right. Today after putting the dash back together I came across a switch that I hadnt noticed before. Attached to the ashtray is a Ford factory 3 position switch. Anyone know what this is too? And here is a current pic of the truck, Friday my custom springs from Tucson Springworks and full set of Rancho 9000 shocks will be in. Thanks for the help guys.
Could have been added for any number of reasons and since the cigarette lighter is the easiest circuit in the dashboard to tap into, I'd bet the PO used the switch to run some aftermarket accessory. I'm unaware of any multi-position switches in that area of the dash.
Unless it is aftermarket for the rear window? Mine is mounted on a blank part of the lower dash. That or it could be something for an amp. My brother had that set up fro his 84 and had a toggle switch for his amp.
Ill shoot some pics in the morning, But its definitely a factory switch of some sort. Motorcraft with ford markings and its mounted on the side with a bracket made especially for it to mount to the ashtray and the switch plugs into a ford wiring harness. I tried tracing the wiring but it goes too far into the dash. Only thing that I can think is if its not factory from the bronco maybe it was a factory switch for the Ford F-350 that the 6.9L Turbo diesel came from and somehow has something to do with the diesel engine swap that it has. I didnt notice it at all the whole time I was redoing the wiring and swapping out the dash lights to LED until I went to cut out the Factory Cig lighter to use the leads to power the new 5 outlet power strip that has 3 cig lighter plugs and 2 USB plugs. When I pulled the ashtray there it was mounted with factory hardware.... Im dumbfounded. My window switch near the heater works, and every other mounted switch works what its supposed to. So Im not sure what this baby does. Im still trying to fix what the previous owner started. He had the factory engine swapped for the 6.9L Diesel with a banks turbo, Turbo timer and Snow performance stage III methanol/water injector. The turbo timer was installed improperly so for now its removed until this weekend if all goes well. But first things first, installing the new upgraded springs and Rancho 9000 struts tomorrow. Pics of the switch up in the AM. Thanks for the help guys!
