Manual Hubs?

This is probably a dumb questions, but is my 87 f250 6.9 going to have manual hubs or auto?

I would think manual, but I haven't pulled the front wheels off. The reason I ask is because the wheels on it have center caps that don't allow access to the hub if it's behind that.

So, if they are manual, is there a center cap for that?

Thanks, Kyle

I would guess they are manual. My 89 has manual hubs, not sure if they offered auto hubs then. but if they are covered by your center caps that's not going to work too well, unless you want to keep them locked all the time. Not good for gas mileage.

If you have solid center caps, chances are your truck is a 2wd.... But if 4wd it should be manual hubs on that age of truck.

It's definitely four wheel drive, but the wheels were put on it temporarily by the previous owner and then it sat and they ended up staying on it. I am thinking I'll use a hole saw to cut out the center of the caps if it doesn't look to tacky otherwise i'll leave them off.

Thanks, Kyle

Have a picture of the wheels?

That would be one heck of a center cap to be able to cover the 4wd hub

Usually front covers means 2wd. Never seen a 4wd like that, pics?

Any factory front cover would have required hole for hub to stick through

I'll get a picture, but I didn't mention that they are aftermarket wheels. I'll get a picture tomorrow!

Thanks, Kyle

It would e a royal pain in the a** to have to remove the wheel or even remove the hubcap to lock/unlock front hubs

Did they offer auto hubs on a F250 with dana 50?

With the transfer case in 2wd, rotate the front driveshaft a few turns in the same direction, if they are auto hubs and work they should lock.

Okay, so I pulled the wheels and they are manual hubs. So I pulled the center cover out of the wheel and I'll drill out the center to allow access to the hubs.

I tested it, and its a night and day difference too.

Thanks, Kyle

so they were locked or unlocked? what was the night and day difference? Traction or less resistance due to not spinning all those front diff parts?
