05 F350. 87,000 miles with unknown service history to me. When cranking the truck takes more time then it should to fire off. I've tried pressing the gas pedal down a 1/2" or so with no luck. New battery and alternator last summer. New fuel filter last week along with a tank of 93 and injector cleaner. Is there a port to check fuel pressure or a way to test the starter?
Maybe try cleaning the throttle body? Also, clean MAF and unhook the battery to relearn your driving pattern. For drive by wire, there is a procedure somewhere in this forum.
On my '02, there is a valve in the back fuel rail on the passenger side to check fuel pressure.
I'll give those a shot of sensor cleaner in the morning but I dont believe it is that. I've listened to a few youtube videos of v10's starting and in all of the movies the starting is much faster and at a higher pitched noise. Mine is slower and low pitched. Is there a way to test the starter in the truck or should it be removed?
Took the truck to the local Advanced Auto. They ran a starting and charging system check. The only thing it could find was low cranking amps when starting. It shows 10.8 Volts but only 0.4 amps draw when starting for a total of 1.3 seconds. The battery and alternator came back good. I removed the starter and bench tested it on the machine in the store. It came back good. Could it be a false positive and the starter is not drawing what it needs to? All connections are clean aside from the battery ground which disapears under the engine cradle and cant be seen. To be sure I added a 4ga ground and nothing changed so that conenction should be fine.
Hook it directly to the starter lug? Where is the starter relay located. The truck didnt come with a owners manual.
Edit- Just tried hooking my 80A charger up to the starter positive lug with the ground on the starter body. Did nothing. I dont think its enough amps to turn it over.
