Ok left the house to run into town for something. Hit the highway and got up to speed then all of a sudden my speedometer pegs past 100. I pulled over shut truck off and it would not move. I get going again and it slowly backs down to 80. Tac was only at 1500 so I was around 60 MPH actually. None of my other guages were effected.
On the way home it never left 80 until I almost ready to slow down and then it jumped back to 0 then started reflecting the actual speed.
Anyone know what might be causing this. 2001 F150 4x4 Ext cab 5.4
Im not real familiar with this family of engines yet, but I believe there are two VSS sensors on these trucks. One on top of the differential and one on the trans. One of the other board member can correct me.
Get codes pulled and post them here, thatll help narrow the problem down.
i just got a 2001 f150 supercrew 4x4 havinbg the same issue
im going to change the speed sensor in the rear end next weekend and see what happens.
Dont think there are two speed sensors but going to do some further research
