4spd vs c6

i am rebuilding a 79 ford f250 4x4 and plan on building a 460 with about 350 to 400 hp. I haul 10,000 pounds of cows and a 10,000 pound skid steer regularly, i am wandering witch transmission would be stouter? i like the idea of an auto for backing trailers and hooking up to trailers but im not sure if it will hold up.

And my t case needs rebuilt where could i get a kit to rebuild it?

A c6 can hold up. You might want to perform some internal upgrades and add a transmission cooler. But you should have no problems with a properly setup c6.

The 4 Speed will work great also. But to me it seems that it would come down to what tranny you currently have.

well

I have always felt autos are for minivans and soccer moms and 4 speeds or 5 are for Work and Play and when the chips are down just my 2 cents

I'm swapping out my C6 in my 79 4x4 with the NP435.

You will get more HP/Torque to the wheels with a manual unlike an auto which the torque converter will take power away.

in a fun application? c6 all the way.
In a workaday towing truck? 4speed manual, no question. Just don't burn up the clutch out of the hole and life is peachy.

Perfectly Said.

As having both I believe what DeepRoots said hits the nail on the head.

I actually think the opposite. I think the 4-speed is a lot more fun.

If I had a 100hp, 360 powered F250 with a c6 and a 460 powered f150 with the 4speed like you do I'd probably agree.

with hauling 10,000lbs regularly id go with the np435. I think the c6 could do it just would need to be beefed up. Id possibly still get a better than stock clutch for 10,000lbs.

Haha. Thats an interesting observation. I'm just a hard core manual trans guy. I like shifing, I had this opinion long before I had either of these trucks. Even my daily driver Ford Focus is a stick. And I think my Highboy deserves a little more credit than 100hp!

I've run both in the same truck, and I like the 4 spd better than the c6. The only thing is, if your towing that much weight, I'd get a gear splitter. Some of the ratios gaps can be a pain in the 4spds, especially on the hills! But either way, both great transmissions.
