Looking for RECENT input on wheel spacers, I have a 2000 F350 and bought 2005 17" ford wheels, found out the offset is different, I want to keep and use the wheels on this truck, what would you guys recommend or what have you used for spacers?
well I havent measured the difference in wheels yet, but i think about 1" would be sufficient... I took details from tirerack.com and seems like about 1/2" difference but 1" would be best.
4.96" backspacing with 12mm offset on the 2005 rims
4.52"backspacing and 13mm offset on my factory wheels
The easy answer is to avoid spacers.... But what good is that?
The more complex answer is what do you need the truck to do? 1.5" is quite a spacer... Are you towing or hauling heavy? Then the easy answer might be the right answer.
But these trucks are built very strong so if you don't need the full capacity, you can make some prudent compromises.
If only moderate towing or hauling, then look for good, name brand FORGED or BILLET hub-centric spacers - made specifically for this truck. No "universal" fit. Billet steel might even be good enough for full capacity loading and towing.
And if never towing or hauling much, imported cast spacers may be adequate.
The correct spacing between the new wheels is aprox 2". Get 2" spaces and you will be just about perfect.
Dont listen to these people who tell you to avoid spacers. On paper, yes, they are not a great idea. But VERY rarely do they fail, especially if you use them properly, and always torque the lug nuts properly.
You will need hub-centric, and get a good quality. As long as you do that, you will be okay.
