Help I'm going nuts
Ok guys I have a 2006 250 w/6.0 it all started with a code that says low voltage to pcm. figured out alt wasent any good replaced it and now when I start it it says check engine temp. temp gage now only works once in awhile and fan is blowing like its over heated but my edge says its good. replaced ect sensor no engine light but onboard system check says (engine sensor data error). wtf.
The guys might be able to help more if you could post the codes. You might try a reset (after noting any current codes). Unhook both batteries and turn the headlight switch on for a few minutes. Drive it a few miles and see how it acts. Post back here with any symptoms or code #'s. Good luck and welcome to FTE!

If the alternator went bad, there are several things that could have happened, ranging from frying a sensor to worst case scenario, frying the whole charging system. That's just my thought.
Have you load tested the batteries individually?

My apologies for the crack, you have an issue with your truck.
Rusty has you started, I'm sure you will have more info soon.

I changed the coolant sensor. Will the oil sensor cause the engine temp gage to not work all the time ? I cleared the codes and drove the hell out of it today trying to get it to set new codes but I got nothing. some times I start it and the gage works and it runs great but the next time the gage drops and runs like crap.
Well dang, no silver bullet for this problem. I'm not sure if the oil temp has any effect on the engine temp gauge but I think not. If your Edge is showing normal temps then the PCM is seeing good data from the ECT sensor. That data goes to the instrument panel and gets buffered (dummied down) and converted to an analog signal to drive the gauge. I agree with Dan on suspecting somthing wrong in the charging system screwing with the instrument panel. Will you edge monitor system (battery) voltage? If its low or a diode is out putting AC current to the system that could explain weirdness at temp gauge and running issues at the same time. New parts can be AFU. Could the coolant system actually have a problem? Is the cable and connectors on the Edge ok? Is it a monitor or a tuner? Will it show "pending" codes?
It running like crap makes me think maybe LPO regulator issue or something
What specific gauge do you mean when you say this
do you mean the LPO gauge???????????????

Are all the batteries terminals good & clean? How about your ground straps? Both of those items will wipe out an alternator and wreck havoc on these trucks. Sounds like the truck is quite drivable...I'd swing by your local parts store and see if they'll pull the codes on the truck if the grounds look good.
The gage Im talking about is the standard dash dummy gage.and I have a real good OBD II reader the issue with taking it to the dealer to have it checked is it hasent thrown a new code. by the way my Edge says temps are good. (I know dump the Edge) I removed it at the beginning of the problem. Thanks again for all of your responses.
