The stock coil and electronics are a matched set and are plenty good for a daily driver if they are operating properly. The only time you need to beef it up is if you intend to do mud bog racing where you will see sustained high rpm use. In this situation you replace the entire system with a HP MSD unit.

Lil late, but there should be rotational movement like it was previous mentioned. Side to side play is a bad thing, as that's going to affect timing accuracy and performance. On a good one, I wont feel play in it, but one with some age it will wiggle around and can cause headaches. No sense in trying to rebuild it, as youll be cussing before its over, lol. A digital labscope is a handy peice of equipment for checking sensors etc. I use mine on new cars all the time, but in this case, I could monitor the signal from the pickup and see if its giving a poor signal, and you'd know for sure that you have a good part. $1200 for a entry model, so kidna pricey if its not making you money.
Well I have a new intake and 600 cfm carb.... Also I was looking at Mallory Ignition kits... The dizzy and everything.... It would be alot cheaper then MSD, but I have not heard anything about Mallory? Would it be a good ignition to put on my 302? Also Since I have the 600 cfm carb, would an upgraded coil be a good idea? Or should I just keep the stock stuff in great operateing condition? Also if the gap doesent really matter... then what is causeing my problem? I have never heard anyone say that the gap between the Stator and armature spokes doesent really matter,,,,,, if mine is at .025... and its suposed to be at .006....? Doesent that tell me somthing?
Will do.... Thanks everyone! Ill get that Dizzy on the 16th! If that is not my problem what could it also be? I was thinking maybe I have a set of bad plugwires, or maybe sparkplugs? I am running out of things to check (replace)? Any ideas? Tourque1st... you told me to check somthing (when I first had this problem) and I took it to a friend and he said he checked it, I donot remember what you said, but I am not trusting he checked it as he said he did.... because he just figured it was the distributor..... and so did I so I didnt look into it.... ???
